The
fate of this place seems uncertain, as a bulldozer was sitting
on the front lawn when these pictures were taken. The building
appears old and has been there as long as I can remember.
Walking through the back
yard the moonlight plays tricks on the eyes, reflecting
off the windows of a two story garage. It appear as though
the lights are on and an occupant is moving around above
the garage. Once inside the basement the smell of formaldehyde
was thick in the air. Most likely where the new arrivals
would have been prepared for their final public appearance.
The basement rooms were
filled with tables, shelves and cabinets on a cement floor.
Other than the looming smell in the air it seemed like an
ordinary basement you would find in a mansion. The ground
floor was carpeted and had a bunch of empty rooms. One room
contained rich wood bookshelves and another a fireplace.
The doors separating the vestibule were still curtained
and the place had the feeling of an elegant abode. The second
floor banister was smashed by vandals who also laid their
ignorant scrawling on the walls of the stairwell. The second
floor was much like the first and in good condition. The
entrance to the third floor was blocked by a boarded up
door. Upon leaving and passing the bulldozer one starts
to wonder why such a well built and maintained building
must be destroyed. Update:
Part of the building was demolished. The rest has been turned
into part of a housing complex. |
