Ye Anchorage INN

A long time ago Blue Point was a resort town dotted with Victorian style hotels and inns. Swimming was a favorite pastime of visiting tourists who would arrive by rail, at the long gone railroad station.

The Ye Anchorage in was built in the 1890 by an Irish sculptor named Bill Graham. He was an eccentric character that would dress in different costumes to greet his guests. His sculptures were showed at various events around NY and were quite famous. His Inn was visited by many of the rich and famous at that time. Guests included Teddy Roosevelt and Mae West. In 1911 Graham sculpted a 10 foot sphinx as an attraction. The hotel eventualy became abandoned in the 1920s and in 1928 was set on fire by kids having a party.

Many remains of this once thriving INN can be still seen along Montauk Highway.

Look in the circled area of the picture above and compare with the picture to the left. We can see that this is a part of the old inn that still sits there today.
Right: the lot where the inn used to be also has this fireplace right smack in the middle. Could the face on the side be the sculpture work of Graham?

Above: The lot also has a well that may be from the inn.

Right: The sphinx at the inn. The sphinx was moved in the 1970s and restored. You can see more about it on our roadside page.
