I bet you may be wondering what's up with the black cow spots above. Well its actually because this windmill was once part of a dairy farm. I first discovered this when I was young and out exploring with my mom some15-20 years ago. We saw this huge windmill that looked different then others we had seen. Upon approaching it we found a neighborhood of half built trashed, and abandoned houses. The tall windmill was located behind one of the would be units.

Fifteen years later while living in that neighborhood I happened across the windmill again. This time the private housing development was finished and all sterile looking, like they all are. There stood the windmill right behind the modern looking unit. I really started to wonder what it was a part of when it was used. For now my question went unanswered.

Then while doing some rail road research I spotted it on a 1924 map that details spurs. As if that wasn't enough the map (shown right) also told what the land once was. It was the F. G. Bourne Dairy Farm.

Setting with a bunch of modern made housing in suburbia this sure is an oddity.

This is a rail map drawn as it was in 1924. All the structures from the dairy farm except the windmill are long gone.
