The BIG Duck |
This well-known classic piece of roadside lore can
be found on Route 24 between Flanders and Hampton Bays. Yes, you can
even go inside. The inside is equipped with a nice little souvenir
shop. The duck is now maintained be the Friends of Long Island Heritage.
It was originally built by a duck farmer during the Great Depression
in 1931. It was inspired by roadside attractions in California, namely
a diner shaped like a tea cup. |
