Sightings:
Sightings on Long Island come in two basic flavors. People reported
seeing a ship or ball of light, or they reported finding animals
mutilated in odd and disturbing ways. The actual craft sightings
will vary. Mutilations were usually found in areas experiencing
a lot of supposed UFO activity. I will cover mutilations first as
these leave tangible evidence.
Mutilations:
I found a lot of information at the Patchogue Medford Library.
They had a Long Island room with a thick file on UFO phenomenon.
Inside the file was an article by a man named Don Ecker, photocopied
from an unknown newspaper. Inside were some accounts that will make
any animal lover's skin crawl. Do not take these accounts as proof
of the existence of aliens on L.I. This could just as easily have
been done by a cultist group and does not display any futuristic
technology, just plain cruelty. Unfortunately, until someone is
caught in the act, we will never know.
A german shepherd was found in Queens near Creedmore and the nurse
who found it said the dog was "turned inside out"
There was a mutilation on the property of Southaven Park in 1988
that took place in the middle of a rash of UFO reports. The description
was very similar to the Creedmore case.
One of the most remarkable instances occurred in an unnamed Suffolk
County park with a lamb. Park employees found the animal and according
to the article by Don Ecker, "bones had been stripped and piled
neatly beside the animal, and the internal organs placed on the
carcass." It was later discovered that Federal agents had been
seen to focus on state parks at the time. It was mentioned in the
article that most mutilations in other parts of the world describe
the animals as lacking any blood but on Long Island this does not
appear to be true.
Not to forget the infamous Mastic / Shirley area, there were a
number of dogs that went missing around the same time as these mutilations,
though no one has proven that the two were related.
Craft sightings and floating lights:
Sightings have been reported of cigar shaped craft, flying balls
of light, and the always popular circular UFOs.
Two prominent LI researchers, Bill Knell and Preston Nichols claim
UFOs were buzzing their homes at times. Preston Nichols is the author
of many books concerning the Montauk Project and Bill Knell was
involved with Island Skywatch. Preston claims he put some sort of
EM transmitter on the top of his house and it diverted the craft.
In Chaury's Weekender there was an article dated 4/8/89 on p.7
that told of a woman in Bellport reporting balls of light circling
her while she was sunbathing. Her husband also saw some strange
light in the same yard.
John Ford maintains that Suffolk County Police actually drew guns
on a craft flying over the corner of Hallock and Columbia in Pt.
Jeff Station. He also reports a scout ship flying over Wildwood
Lake Near Riverhead-Speonk Road.
I found an article in the National Examiner on July 1990 entitled
"Star Wars! Long Island Family Sees Copters Shoot Down Gigantic
UFO". A couple reported seeing a large object with amber lights
hovering in the sky over Moriches Bay. It had six round lights and
they were blinking in some sort of pattern. Helicopters surrounded
the object, propellers chattering away. The couple also reported
seeing a bluish white glowing thing on the shore. The craft approached
the blue glow and then suddenly disappeared. This was supposedly
backed up by a man who contacted John Ford wishing to be anonymous
and claiming to work in a government lab. He supposedly admitted
that his lab had shot down the craft. UFO's are reported to disappear
suddenly all the time, so it might be just as likely that it winked
out of its own accord than it was shot down.
Southaven Park - the crash
The most Coherent information on Southaven was located in the LIUFON
Press Release on August 3 1998. The actual crash occurred at 7:00pm
on Nov. 24th, 1992. A man was driving east on Sunrise Highway heading
toward WIlliam Floyd Parkway. There was a patch of trees separating
Sunrise from Montauk Hwy. To the south of Sunrise he saw a large
craft that he describes as, "tubular in shape with two large
bright blue lights on each end with a bright white light in its
center whose structure was composed of a dull metallic grey texture".
He saw the object make a very tight right angle, cross the highway,
and crash into the woods of Southaven Park. When it hit, the object
emitted a dazzlingly white beam that was said to turn night to day
for a moment.
The same man turned and came back on the other side of Sunrise
to backtrack and find the source of the crash. He saw helicopters
near the exit to William Floyd Pkwy. Neither the helicopters or
the personnel that came to block off the westbound exit to William
Floyd bore any markings or insignia and the men were dressed in
plain black. Finally he went west on Victory which was closed off
later, and reached the second turn on Gerard Ave. This street and
its neighbors would soon report all manner of electrical glitches,
phone ringing with no one there, and TV static. At this time though
our witness could see a huge fire back in the woods.
At the same time someone also driving east on Sunrise saw an oval
shaped object fly over the town dump hill, "on a descending
course 30 degrees to the horizon which was leaving a green ionization
trail as it passed". Could this have been part of its crash
trajectory? The oval craft or one like it may have been scouting
out the local area because there was an incident "reported
over Islip Town which were seen on the Channel 12 News in March
1992 at the Bagatelle Road Exit of the Long Island Expressway".
Some researchers say even now that there are areas of Southaven
that have the trees bent as if almost torn out of the ground at
some point in their growth. On a scouting mission we think we found
such a site. We also found a good aerial shot of the area that shows
a large roundish area that has no trees at all. The photos are below.
