D.S. Shanahans, a bar located in Kings Park is said to be haunted by the ghost of a young woman. The bar is situated right next to the buildings commonly known as "The Quad", part of the former Kings Park Psych Center. Though it has been under other names, the bar itself has been in operation through most of the heyday of KPPC. Of course it has collected some interesting stories over the years.

One such interesting story was told to us by one of the men who work at the bar. He had been upstairs and saw a woman in the hallway. He called out to her since he was wondering how she got there. To his surprise she disappeared right in front of him. The woman has been reported by other people who spend significant time at the bar. One of the female employees also told us that the bar used to be a brothel. If any one else has seen the mysterious D.S. Shanahans lady, we would like to hear about it.

Another odd legend about D.S. Shanahans concerns an old tree located in the back. The way the branches and trunk are arrayed convinces some that they see the shape of a woman embedded in the tree. Of course this is somewhat of an illusion. Some say in jest that she is a dryad, a spirit living inside a tree to guard over it.

Now of course you have to admit that a lot of drinking goes on at a bar and the customers are sometimes just as likely to see the winning lottery numbers in the clouds but the tree definitely looks gnarled enough and is interesting to look at. Actually you can almost see the outline of what might look like an old man with a beard, but maybe we have just watched Lord of the Rings one too many times.
